We will definitely teach APC Bitter Lesson If Saraki Is convicted – PDP Senator

The power play in the Senate, over who succeeds Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, if he is convicted by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), yesterday, took a new twist when one of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senators, Matthew Urhoghide, declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be taught a bitter lesson.

Last week, a PDP Senator from Delta State, Peter Nwaoboshi, boasted that opposition lawmakers were poised to produce Saraki’s replacement in the event he loses his case at the CCT. But, Senator Urhoghide, who spoke with newsmen in his office in Abuja yesterday, said with the current configuration of the Red Chamber, the PDP stands a better chance of producing Saraki’s replacement.

He alleged the APC was naive by allowing the CCT trial “drag on for too long without any intervention.“ “I see this thing as a misplaced priority. I see it as something strange in our political history. It is a slight on the National Assembly. It is a pity that 109 Senators are not allowed to make their own free choices. What is going on in the court is just drama. “We in the PDP will support him till the end. Since he became the Senate president, Saraki has been able to dignify the Senate.

The turning point has been made. We must be able to choose our presiding officers without anybody interfering. Anybody thinking that they will have a chance of making a replacement choice when they remove Saraki is joking.” Explaining the current configuration and how PDP may likely produce the next Senate President, Urhoghide said: “The PDP will decide who will be the president.” At present, PDP has 46 seats while the APC leads with 57 members. Six seats are still up for grabs.

He continues: “Anybody they are thinking of will not succeed. The number has not waned. Saraki is getting more support from Nigerians. “The APC must not be unmindful of the fact that when we made Saraki Senate President, the PDP had the chance of producing the president. But, the APC is pushing its luck too far…” Meanwhile, chairman of the APC in Kwara State, Ishola Balogun-Fulani yesterday cleared the air over allegation that Saraki drew his salary from the state government even after the expiration of his tenure in 2011 as governor.

Balogun- Fulani told newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital that Saraki only drew the pension constitutionally approved for him and his erstwhile deputy. The APC chairman said as the majority leader of the Sixth legislature, he anchored the bill on the approval of pension and gratuity for former governors and their deputies in the state.

He said the Bill went thorough legislative debate and public hearing before it was passed into law. According to him, the initiation and the eventual passage of the Bill followed the recommendation of Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission( RMFAC) on pension and gratuity for former governors and their deputies. “They are being naive. With the configuration that we have, the demographics are in our favour if we decide to take over the Senate.

“We need only five people to join us and we will take over the Senate. APC must be mindful of the dangers of removing Saraki. “Once PDP takes over, the president will find it difficult to have anything passed. They have brought a lot of things that are not OK. But we just overlook some things. Some of the ministerial nominees that were brought were not qualified, but we allowed it to pass.”

The top ten Silly Ways Guys Act When A Lady Turns Them Down...

Some ladies have been warned to be careful with men especially when their proposal has been turned down as some are known to go on a vengeful mission and could be dangerous. Some Guys can’t take NO for an answer when they want a lady and when they get the NO, they become cruel beings on a revenge mission. Sometimes, I do categorise those guys as “Immature” buh believe me, most of them are mature enough. Here are Some Ways Guys Act When A Lady Turns Them Down..

He mightn’t be in an excellent connection with those men that are classic, but he’ll mingle with them and speak with them if they are his buddies when he sees the girl around. That is simply to make her feel he mixes with men that are classic.

On an ordinary day, when he sees her he smiles and possibly walks towards her, but now he pretends he doesn’t see her even when with his friends and they are pointing at her.

4. He Badmouth Her

To console themselves when a woman turns them down, what most guys do is bad mouth her and talk about stooping low to have asked her out in the very first place. He gives her telephone number to his friend who’s an experienced toaster, just to punish her

6. He Quits Asking Her Out

10. Discourage Other Guys From Wooing Her

Only because his advances continues to be turned down, he gives other guys reasons why they need to avoid her, telling them she is ill-mannered and she not worth the pursuit. NOTE:-If a lady turns you down doesn’t mean you can’t find a suitable Lady better than her.. | Just move on with your lives and stop being immature.. Nigeria Must Not Rely On only Oil – VP Osinbajo

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo has advocated that for the nation to move forward, the Federal and State Government must reduce dependence on sharing revenue made from oil sale.

Osibanjo spoke at the Economic Forum organized by the Nation Newspapers in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Thursday. “We must look beyond oil because it disturbs us from looking to other sector. In order to move the country forward, we must reduce the Federal Government and state dependence on sharing revenue made from oil sales. “The foundation for a strong economy demands that we have appropriate fiscal policies that will help the country that is arising from a very low rate of VAT and a low taxpayer’s base. We are focusing on increasing the country’s taxpayers base. We are committed to expanding the tax net,” he stated.

The Vice President also lamented that the price of oil had collapsed from $114 per barrel to under $40, saying that the issue therefore was that “we must move beyond oil which accounts for larger percentage of the country revenue. It is pathetic that a nation with over 170 million people benchmarked its budget on the price of oil.” He said the present administration is determined to address the economic problems by prioritising key sectors.

“The way forward requires that we move from land and crude oil to production of petroleum products. That is rather than extract and exporting, the country must take full advantage of the oil sector and entire value chain. This will also assist us in making full use of our natural gas resources domestically and abroad. And it will aid us to fully implement long term laws in the oil sector.

“It is for this reason that the Federal Government will be prioritizing the adopting and execution of the National oil and gas master plan this year. We will also move beyond neglect of other sectors. While we believed that the oil sector was the only source of revenue, other sectors suffered and these sectors have the potential to drive the economy, provide jobs and others.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, in his speech said that for Nigeria’s economy to improve, its leaders must have the courage to take difficult and tough decisions, saying that the nation’s economy was at a critical threshold and thus, would require its leaders to think outside the box and come up with creative innovations that will trigger economic growth nationwide. He lamented the fact that previous governments at the federal level failed to take advantage of the oil boom to grow other sectors of the economy, saying that the fall in price in the international oil market coupled with many years of corruption has made the economy vulnerable.

“It is very unfortunate that we wasted the golden opportunity to deploy the trillions of dollars earned from our oil exports to develop the critical sectors of the economy including power, agriculture, industries, solid minerals, transportation infrastructure among others. No doubt, if we had done the right thing as some other oil producing countries did, keeping in mind that crude oil is a finite resource, we would not be experiencing the devastating effect of oil price crash on the scale we are experiencing it now.

“We are now being forced to do, with pains, what we should have done with ease years ago. The task of charting a new direction for the economy is not going to be a tea party. Various policy options must be identified and assessed on the basis of our current situation and needs. Moving our economy forward requires thinking outside the box and doing things differently. We need creativity, innovation and the courage to take difficult and tough decisions.

“The leadership of the country at national and state levels must have the courage to take tough decisions and make sacrifices in the near term which will, in the long run, make our economy stronger and sustainable and, consequently result in prosperity across all regions of Nigeria,” he said.

Recommending strategies to improve the economy, Governor Ambode said that the nation must begin to explore and expand the opportunities that abound in inter-State relations and strengthen regional competitiveness by maximizing economies of scale, regional optimization of assets and endowments and mitigation of afflictions and natural disasters.

He listed other viable areas for inter-State collaboration to include transport infrastructure to facilitate market linkages, education, market development, human capacity building, security and intelligence sharing, saying that it was high time to move away from an oil driven economy. “Prior to the oil boom era, Agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy and contributed about 65 per cent to the country’s GDP and represented close to 70 per cent of total exports. Through farming, Nigeria was able to feed its population while major cash crops were exported to earn foreign exchange.

“From the cocoa and rubber plantations in the West, the groundnut pyramids and cotton in the north, to palm oil in the east; each region was identified by its economic areas of comparative advantage which were collectively harnessed towards ensuring food security and inclusive growth across the country.

“Given our current economic challenge, I believe it is time we take a cue from our old ‘playbook’ for a viable ‘game plan’ to revive our national economy. States and regions must once again begin to leverage on their respective areas of comparative advantage by establishing partnerships towards establishing inter-State or inter-regional commodity value chain. We must re-start inter-state/regional cooperation,” he said.

In Photos: 5-year-old girl who is gradually going blind from rare disease gets her wish to see Pope Francis

Pope Francis on Wednesday April 6 met Elizabeth "Lizzy" Myers, a five-year-old American girl who does not know she is gradually going blind from a rare genetic disease, Usher syndrome. Her parents are trying to get her to see as many things as she can, including meeting the Pope. Accompanied by her parents and her little sister, Lizzy was able to speak to the 79-year-old Pontiff in an emotionally charged encounter at his weekly general audience at St Peter's. Pope Francis stroked the little girl's face and gave her a rosary.

"She was awestruck. She just teared up," her mother Christine Myers, who is Catholic, told reporters afterwards. "To her he's the big guy in the white hat." "He asked us to pray for him and told us he would pray for us," she added. Lizzy, whose case has received big media coverage in the United States, is not aware that she is suffering from Usher's Syndrome, which will eventually leave her deaf and blind. Her parents said they would tell Lizzy, who already wears a hearing aid, about her condition gradually as she asks questions.

She could be blind in about seven years so they have started what they call a "visual bucket list" of sites and people they think she should see while she can. The Myers family, from Belleville, Ohio, have spent the week in Rome taking in the city's historic sights as part of the "bucket list", drawn up in the knowledge that Lizzy has only limited time to see some of the wonders of the world.

Lizzy gave the Pope a piece of a meteorite she was given when she was a special guest at the Warren Rupp Observatory in Mansfield, Ohio, one of the first places on her parents' list. Her condition, Usher Syndrome Type II, means that she will gradually lose her hearing and her sight. Following publicity surrounding her diagnosis, the family was offered free flights to anywhere in the world.

After reading of her case, an airline offered them round-trip tickets to anywhere in the world and the family chose Rome. They opted for Rome partly because Lizzy had been struck by Francis's fatherly air. As well as meeting the Pope, she has this week visited the Colosseum and been treated to a VIP tour of the Italian capital's zoo.

"I feel like I have very little time to show her so much," her father Steve Myers said. Her mother said she and her husband wanted to make sure that she also saw simple things while she could, "like bonfires and fireflies" Source: AFP/REUTERS/Vatican Radio English/Tv2000

This is What Happened To The Pastor Who Buried Men Alive In Church Foundation In Enugu

Finally, the so called man of God who caused a stir when three dead bodies were discovered under the foundation of his new church building in Enugu State, has been arrested. The strange discovery of dead bodies buried in shallow graves under the foundation of a popular church located at the Ugwuaji area along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, in January, 2016, has caused serious outrage amongst the residents with the police vowing to do everything possible to bring the run away pastor to book.

It was later discovered that the three bodies found under the church foundation were members of the Tricycle Riders Association in the state, who had been declared missing earlier by the Keke Riders’ body. The pastor is currently cooling his heels in the cell of the State Police Command. More details to follow.
