Boko Haram members Now Disguise As Herdsmen In Benue, Taraba – Senate

The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, said crimes of mass murder across Nigerian communities were committed by “overpowered” Boko Haram insurgents, not Fulani herdsmen. This was part of the Senate’s resolutions that followed a motion by Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP-Taraba State) on “the need to urgently flush out Boko Haram insurgents reassembling in Taraba State”.

“The Senate is aware that that Nigerian Army has recorded tremendous success in the war against insurgents in the States of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa. “There is a change of tactics by insurgents who now parade as herdsmen to make it difficult for the public to identify them,” Mr. Bwacha said.

He said many communities in his Taraba South constituency had been deserted, following attacks by Boko Haram insurgents “masquerading as Fulani herdsmen”. Fulani herdsmen have been accused of mass murder and destruction of farms in different parts of Nigeria, with the latest being Agatu communities of Benue State.

Ado Boderi, speaking for Fulani community in Benue State, said recently that the Agatu people triggered crisis after killing 10,000 cattle belonging to the Fulani community. Barnabas Gemade (APC-Benue State), in his contribution said Boko Haram insurgents were “mixing with herdsmen to cause trouble”.

However, Mr. Gemade lamented the situation in Benue and other states which he said he visited. He said a community in Zamfara had over 250 people killed by insurgents masquerading as herdsmen. “As we speak, Agatu is under siege,” Mr. Gemade said. He asked the government to ensure herdsmen have space for cattle to graze to curb the menace of destruction of farms.

Similarly, in his contribution to the debate, Abubakar Kyari (APC-Borno State), said Fulani herdsmen should not be described as “unfriendly”. “When Fulani herdsmen or Kanuri are being tagged as unfriendly, it portends danger for the country and freedom to live and work anywhere,” Mr. Kyari said. The Senate resolved to condemn the killings, kidnappings, destruction of property and farms by “Boko Haram insurgents” in communities across Benue, Taraba, Plateau and other states.

Just in! Scarcity Of Water hits Federal University Of Agriculture, Abeokuta This Morning (Photos)

This is the situation of water for students in the UK hall of FUNAAB this morning. Students had to queue to fetch a bucket of water. Some students had to resort to getting water from an old well nearby. Some students were seen heading towards the student union building all in quest for water so as to make it early to 8am lecture. This was as a result of lack of power supply the previous day and the school authority failed to put on the generator at the stipulated time the previous night. Why should this be happening in a federal univerity .

This was the reason why We Flogged Protesting Women In Delta – Army Unit Commander

THE Nigerian Army Unit Commander stationed at Ovre-Eku community, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Lt. E. D. Oworobo, has told a police source that the reason he ordered his men to flog the women who had embarked on a peaceful protest over a disputed land claimed by PRESCO Oil Company, was because they attempted to disarm his men. Oworobo and his men of the 4th Brigade Command, Benin-City, Edo State, had last Wednesday, flogged and kicked hundreds of women protesting at Ovre-Eku (Iwevbo) community over a land which had been in dispute for years between Edo and Delta states.

The source who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Oworobo had contacted the District Officer, DO, of Eku Police station, Mr. Andrew Efejedia, in an attempt to exonerate himself and his men of any wrong doing in the incident, where he claimed that he had no option than to order his men to use minimal force to disperse the protesters who had tried to disarm his men. According to the source, Oworobo had asked the DO, “Don’t you know it is a crime to carry a charm according to the Criminal Code of Nigeria?”

Meanwhile, Lt. Oworobo has also threatened to deal with the Warri correspondents of The Authority and The Nation newspapers, Theophilus Onojeghen and Bolaji Ogundele, both of whom had contacted him to know what actually transpired between his men and the protesting women. The offence of the journalists was their temerity to contact him for the military’s side of the incident.

In separate reactions to the journalists, an angry Lt Oworobo had described them as idiots and madmen, allegedly saying: “You’re an idiot. You’re a mad man. Why are you calling me? So I should report to you abi? Who are you to call me? If you ever call me in your life, I’ll deal mercilessly with you.” Source: Vanguard
