Angry Mob Attacks fraudsters, Destroys Their Operational Car (Photo)

The month of February did not end well for the trio of Ayobami Akintunde (50), Niniola Abiola (48) and Monsurat Kareem (40), as they were almost lynched by an irate mob at Sango area of Ibadan, Oyo State, over suspected kidnapping. They were, however, saved by policemen from Sango Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, one SP Joyce, who was joined by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Oyo State Police Command.

Saturday Tribune’s findings, which were confirmed by the state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, during a press briefing on Monday, March 7, however revealed that the suspects were conmen who belonged to a syndicate popularly called Gbajue or 419, who fraudulently obtained money from unsuspecting victims by playing on their psychology.

According to the police commissioner, the four-member syndicate operated in a Honda Saloon car with registration number BDJ 913 DB. One of them, Abiola, accosted a 28-year-old woman, Mrs Amina Gafar at Sango area on the fateful day, asking for direction to a non-existing area. From that point, other suspects, who pretended to be passersby, joined, while Abiola started making revelations about each of them. Swallowing the bait, albeit reluctantly, Mrs Gafar, who had a polythene bag containing N5,000, dropped it so that she could walk a distance to pick a stone without looking back, as instructed by Abiola. Gafar, however, went against the instruction at a point, only to discover, to her consternation that the ‘prophetess’ and the two ‘passersby’ had boarded a car, about to move away with her money.

She raised the alarm and people who came from different directions descended on three of the members while one of them escaped. Not only were they pummeled, the Honda car they operated in was vandalised and turned into scrap metal by the mob which insisted on setting them on fire. One of the suspects, Abiola, had her right eye pierced with an object, making it drip blood. The three suspects still bore the wounds and bruises that resulted from the mob action as of the time of filing this report. Narrating her experience, Gafar, a mother of six, said: “That day, I came to Sango area from Olomi area where I lived. On my way back home, I decided to go to Oritamerin market to buy soya beans that I was using to make cheese for sale. As I stood waiting for a commercial bus, a woman (whom I later knew to be Kareem) asked me for direction to a place but I replied that I was not familiar with the area.

“She approached another woman and she also gave the same reply as I did, unknown to me that they belonged to the same syndicate. The next thing she said was that I should pray very well so that I would not cry over my first child. I thanked her and made to go but she called me again and said I should buy three edible things like sugar cane, orange and aadun (a corn delicacy in Yorubaland) as alms so that I would not die before seven days. I became afraid. “She also spoke to the other woman and told her that she had twins, one of whom was dead. The woman confirmed the statement. She then asked the woman to pray for twins for me. Inwardly, I wondered what I needed twins for.

She asked the woman to drop all the things she was holding and moved forward to about three poles without looking back and bring a stone back. “Kareem asked me to hold her purse for her while she obeyed the instructions given to her. I told her I could not, so that I would not land in trouble in case she claimed anything was missing. But she insisted and pushed the purse into the polythene bag I was carrying, just to win my confidence.

“She went and came back. I was then told to do the same thing. I had a feeling that I should not go. I hesitantly moved a few steps and stopped. The woman came to me and said it was as if I didn’t believe her. She asked me to spit into my palm and I did. To my surprise, the saliva appeared at the back of my hand.

“A man also appeared and the woman told him to go and release the two people he put in cell. The man introduced himself as a policeman and said that the people he locked up were thieves. He then advised me that I should not doubt what I was told. “His status gave me confidence and I moved forward to pick a stone as I was instructed. I was told not to look back but a spirit asked me to look back and I did. I saw that the two women were already in the car with a man. The other man who called himself a policeman was standing, and as I started shouting thief, thief, he ran away. “The suspects quickly threw my polythene bag at me. The crowd stopped me from leaving the scene so that I could narrate my experience to the police.” The woman vowed never to respond to any request from any stranger, saying that she learnt a hard lesson through her experience.

One of the suspects, Abiola, an Ibadan indigene, who confirmed the victim’s narration, confessed to Saturday Tribune thus: “Yes it is true we collected a woman’s money, but immediately she raised the alarm, we threw her money back at her. But the mob descended on us and beat us silly until we were rescued by the police. I just started the fraud business about a month ago. It was one Sunday who escaped arrest that introduced the idea to me. The government should forgive me; I will never be involved in such a thing again.

Another suspect, Monsurat Kareem (40), who came from Lagos State to join other members of the syndicate, said she was also invited by Sunday. “I knew Sunday in Lagos. I was greatly indebted as a result of money I borrowed from a microfinance bank. I invested in business but it collapsed. When I explained to him, he said I should come and join a group. That was how I got involved,” she explained.

Monsurat also disclosed that she had once been arrested over a similar case and spent three months in remand at Agodi prisons before she was released. “Please, help me appeal to the government not to take me to the prison because it would be like a death sentence. “This is my second outing and I have never gained from this crime; I have always been at the receiving end. I believe that the beating I went through was God showing Himself to me that He was not happy at the path I have toed, which is a path of destruction.”

The third suspect, Ayobami Akintunde (50), an Ikire indigene who resides in Abeokuta, also claimed that he decided to be a fraudster because he could not pay his children’s school fees. “I use my private car for commercial purpose but it was not yielding much money for me. My role was to convey the syndicate members with my car.

I just thank God for the timely arrival of the police. If not, I would have been a dead man now. It is now that I know that police is our friend.” Oyebade however said that the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

Bursted!!! Police Disrupts Activities Of Cult Members Initiation In Ogun

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State have disrupted the activities of members of a secret cult while they were trying to initiate new members to carry out their evil acts. Three members of the group, identified respectively as Lekan Babatunde, Segun Owodunni and Musa Ibrahim were arrested at different locations of the area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the men, who were arrested on Saturday, had assembled at Oke-Oko for the initiation of some newly-recruited members. Babatunde was arrested in the house of one Yusuf Mufutau, who is the leader of the cult. But he is at large.

“Items recovered from them include one locally-made single-barelled gun, live cartridges, cutlasses, photographs of some suspected members and a car with number plate, VF 117 KJA.” The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, Abdulmajid Ali, has instructed that the suspects be transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. State security operatives are also not stepping up their fight against cultism which has found a new sort of energy, with a high record of killings already this year. However Ogun State has recorded more activities from cultists compared to other south-west states in recent times. #SaNoToCultism!

Pastor TB Joshua gives Libya deportees N4million (photos).....

This report is by freelance Nigerian journalist, Ihechukwu Njoku. Read below... Thirty-nine of the reported 172 Nigerians who were deported from Libya on Friday 11th March 2016 were received by Pastor T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) during his church service on Sunday 13th March. According to a post on the church’s official Facebook page, the deportees were each given the sum of N100,000 by Joshua, who is well known for his charitable gestures. Fidelis Onos, who spoke on behalf of the group, said that most of them had been imprisoned for up to one year in Libya after they were suddenly arrested. The majority were working as bricklayers in the North African country where they had sought ‘greener pastures’. “We are not here to blame Libya,” Fidelis is quoted as saying. “If Nigeria was okay, we would never have left in the first place. It’s the war in Libya that turned it to what it is today – in a place where there is no government, what can you expect?” He explained that United Nations officials visited the Nigerians in the Libyan prison and were touched at their plight, promising to arrange their repatriation back to Nigeria. They were finally able to travel under the voluntary returnee programme organised by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Arriving in Lagos with only the clothes they came with, the deportees were provided with a meagre N6,500, leading to resentful outbursts from many at the airport. “Frustrated, angry and despondent, a group of them decided to seek refuge at The SCOAN, having watched Emmanuel TV in Libya,” the church wrote on their Facebook page. “Upon learning of their arrival in the church, Prophet T.B. Joshua immediately sent evangelists to provide food, alongside medical aid to some of the most malnourished in their midst,” it continued. After giving the young men N3.9million ($20,000), many were emotionally moved and shed tears. “If not for a man like T.B. Joshua, most of us would have ended up going into armed robbery, kidnapping or even joining a group like Boko Haram,” said Godspower Chibuike as he appreciated Joshua for the gift. “If youths were encouraged like this, we wouldn’t even think of travelling to places like Libya,” another deportee stated, adding that he had never seen such an amount of money in his life.

The group were subsequently provided with toiletries alongside brand new clothing, as they had worn the same set of clothes since their arrival in Nigeria. “Remember, what you make happen for others, God will make happen for you,” T.B. Joshua stated in the conclusion of the Facebook post.

Meet the toddler who eats paint, carpet, washing powder, bugs, stones, and many more

A three year old toddler, Mandy Moore, is suffering from a rare condition called Pica, that makes her crave everything from the carpets to paint to washing powder, to bugs, stones, plastic and anything else but normal food. Pica, a rare impulsive disorder meaning she has cravings to eat non-food. It can be potentially life-threatening, with risks ranging from vomiting, constipation and infections to blockages in the gut and intestines, choking and poisoning.

In some cases surgery may be needed to remove objects from an individual’s gut or to repair tissue injuries. Her mum, 26 year old Catherine Mullins had to quit her job to keep a constant eye on Maddie to make sure she doesn’t choke or eat something that could damage her insides. Her partner, who is 29 years old also quit his job so they could both watch her. She said: “If she could, she would eat everything. I’m always worried about what she’ll try to eat next. Everything goes to her mouth.

“Sometimes, I have to put my fingers in her mouth and hook the food out to stop her choking. “You literally can’t take your eyes off her for a minute so our house never shuts down.” She noticed Maddie started putting strange objects in her mouth just before she turned one, when she began crawling.

Maddie’s behaviour prompted tests and assessments at her two-year health check and she was diagnosed with Pica in September last year. She also suffers from autism, developmental delay and sensory process disorder, which causes her to bounce, spin and climb at any opportunity. The family live in Bournemouth, Dorset At night she has to be zipped into a specialist bed to stop her harming herself while her parents and four-year-old sister Lilly sleep. According to the mum, as she gets older, her interest in normal food has drastically reduced and she only eats foods of a particular colour and texture - like potato waffles, fish fingers and chicken burgers. Catherine said:

“It started with her picking up and eating small items of fluff and paper, any bits she could find from the floor. “Then her cravings became more and more intense. We can’t have anything on the walls like displays or paintings because she’ll eat them. “Lilly can’t do any drawing or crafts because Maddie will eat the pencils and paints.

“I literally have to hide anything dangerous. We have child locks but she’s very clever and susses them out. “Yesterday she ate a whole pack of chalks when I wasn’t looking, but her favourites are Play-Doh, sand and dirt.” “I can’t go anywhere with her - not even to a cafe or the supermarket," said Catherine. “Our flat is so small, there isn’t space to even use the sensory equipment we have been funded which would really help Maddie.

“It’s hard because due to her condition she can’t go outside much either. She needs to be safe because of her complex needs so to have somewhere where she could have the space to play and Lilly could rest too, would be a dream come true.

“Nothing in our life is normal, every aspect is affected and it’s very tough on Lilly too. “Every day is a struggle but she’s worth it. Maddie is such a character. “I feel really lucky because she is so quirky and different. I love her so much.” Source: UK Mirror

LASU Anthony Campus Results are yet to be released for over 6yrs....(Read)

An affected student writes in... I attended LASU (Anthony Campus) and graduated in the year 2009 but as I write this, we are yet to receive our results from the school authorities.

We have pleaded with the school authorities on several occasions on the release of our results but unfortunately our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. It is high time we call the attention of Lagos State government and Management of Lagos State University (LASU) to the plight of ex-Students of the institution. many students who have graduated from the school and met all the necessary requirements to be awarded certificates are yet to receive any proof of graduation.

The worse hit are students of the School of Part-time Studies (Anthony Campus) who have nothing to show after spending at least 6 years in the institution. Some students who wrote their final exams some 6 years ago are still at the mercy of the School's Senate to approve their results. This is not encouraging especially in a highly competitive and harsh labour environment like ours.

We are pleading with the listening Governor of Lagos, His Excellency, Akinwunmi Ambode to look critically at the management of LASU with a view to expediting the release of student's result‎.
