It is time!!! Nigeria Must Stop Importing What It Has – Emir Of Kano

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Saturday said Nigeria must stop importing what it has in order to boost local industries and create jobs. The Emir stated this in Kaduna while inaugurating the new Council Secretariat of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA).

Sanusi said the current economic crisis induced by the crash in global oil price, should serve as a wake-up call for the country to utilise its resources judiciously. “Nigeria is full of experts in importing what we have and exporting what we do not have.

“We have cotton but we import textile materials from China; we have crude oil but we import fuel refined from our own crude from Russia and other countries. “We have gas but we let it flare away instead of utilising it to produce power, yet import generators from outside. “We eat our hides and skin and import shoes from outside, and we eat our tomatoes and import canned tomatoes paste from China,” he said. The Emir said things must change, and advised the Federal Government to give priority to education, industries, power and agriculture.

Sanusi noted that the textile industries in the past had employed more than 600,000 people at a time. He therefore advised industrialists to be in the vanguard of advising the administration on key directions to move the economy forward and always draw the attention of government when it derails from targeted national goals. The Emir stressed that the persistent conflicts in the country were largely due to economic hardships and not religion or tribal sentiments.

He expressed the belief that the resuscitation of Nigeria’s industrial base would offer massive employment ant take off the streets, the huge number of idle youths used to foment crisis. On the current economic hardship in the country, the Emir said Nigerians must be educated to appreciate that it was due to the low revenue accruing to government as a result of the fall in oil price.

“It is not possible to continue doing what you are doing when the price of oil was at $110 and now that it is selling at about $30. “People ought to realise that the price of oil has bearing on the current hike in goods and services, and until things change, we must have to adjust our needs as a nation,” he noted.

Sanusi also spoke on the effect of smuggling on the nation’s economy and called for massive enlightenment to educate those involved on the harm they inflict on the wellbeing of the common man. He called on religious leaders, to use their sermons in Mosques and Churches, to call for boycott of foreign goods and for patronage of Made-in-Nigeria products.

Earlier, the President of the Chamber, Dr Abdul Alimi-Bello, expressed the group’s appreciation to the Emir for his continuous support. He disclosed that the chamber had set up a committee to establish a library on Nigeria’s economic potentials.(NAN)

Rivers state People are Now Viewed As Barbarians That Behead Fellow Human Beings – APC

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party have been accused of bringing ’embarrassment and national shame’ to the people of the state.

According to the Rivers APC Chairman, Dr Davies Ikanya, the people of the state are now perceived as ‘barbarians that behead and burn fellow human beings’ over elections and political affiliations.

Following to violent Rivers rerun polls of Saturday, the party also distanced itself from the arrest of Kenneth Kobani, the Secretary to the Rivers state Government.

“Why should we mastermind the arrest of Kobani? What is his political relevance? Does his position as SSG place him above the law? Are we the one that asked him to be lawless that warranted his arrest?”

“We as a political party are orderly and decent group that wants the best for Rivers State. Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who is a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was directed by the DIG Police to vote and leave to his residence and he complied then who is Kobani to be moving around intimidating voters in polling units that he does not belong to? Is it because he belongs to PDP that makes him to be above the law? He contravened the law and must face the music not minding the rattling of PDP.”

“Maybe very soon they will accuse us of planting the N40M, Arms, Police and Army Uniforms in the car of Mr. Cyril Dum Wite, S.A to Gov Nyesom Wike on Special Projects that led to his arrest.” “Look at the embarrassment and national shame that Wike and PDP have brought to the State for the few months they hold sway in the State. Today we are looked upon as barbarians that behead and burn fellow human beings as if they are goats.”

“On collation of results, we need not exchange words with PDP all the time on issues that are very clear to the public. We all know that PDP in Rivers State is a lawless society that believes in the manipulation of electoral results and that is why the court could nullify almost all their 2015 electoral victories.” “We have seen all the fake results they have continued to dish out to the public through the Social Media but to us we can only wait for the results announced by INEC before we can make any comment.

We are not lawless like PDP to manipulate any result so we urge the general public to discard the fake results being presented by PDP and wait for INEC official results.”

“PDP said that they want election! They have had the election and should accept their fates and face the wrath of the law for being a lawless society. Finally, we have no hand in either the arrests of Kobani, Wite or beating of Roseline Konya.”

This Retired Headmistress Shot Dead In Benin By Teenage Cultist (Photo)

A 65-year-old retired headmistress, Mrs. Clara Uwaifo, has been reportedly shot dead by a suspected teenage cultist in Benin City, capital of Edo state. Mrs. Uwaifo who retired from Uwelu Primary School, Benin, last August, was allegedly gunned down on Wednesday, March 15, at the gate of her residence at 27, Oviawe Street, Off Upper Siluko Road, Ogida Quarters, at about 3:00 pm.

The deceased, a widow, was said to have met her sudden death while returning from the hospital where she had gone to see her daughter who had just delivered a baby. When journalists visited the scene of the incident on Friday, sympathizers who besieged the compound were placing curses on the killer of the woman.

One of the granddaughters of the deceased (name withheld), who allegedly witnessed the gruesome murder of the victim, told journalists that she was returning from school when she sighted her grandmother also approaching the gate with the suspect following her closely. She further stated that as she doubled up her steps to meet up with her grandmother in order to assist her with one of the bags she was carrying when the teenager pulled out a gun from the pocket of his trousers and shot at the woman from behind.

She however said she identified the suspect as the son of their neighbour whose family has been at loggerheads with the Uwaifos. She also alleged that members of the suspect’s family have severally threatened to kill the woman and that the threat was reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Benin City, last year.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Osifo, who confirmed the murder of the retired headmistress, identified the suspect as “one Happy Agbangbanyan, a teenage cultist and serial killer on police wanted list.” He added that the police are already on his trail.
