gov. Fayose In Court For Joining Workers’ Strike

A lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu has dragged Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state to the Federal High Court in Lagos state, for joining the ongoing workers’ strike in Ekiti.

Akingbolu argued that Mr. Fayose’s decision amounted to abdication of duties.

Akingbolu said “Considering the provision of Section 176 subsection 1 and 2 of the Constitution whether the abdication of duty by the 1st Defendant in reckless abandonment is not a violation of Oath of office taken by him as Governor of Ekiti.”

Akingbolu also asked the court to order President Muhammad Buhari to declare a state of emergency in Ekiti state to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

Naijaloaded.com recalls that Governor Fayose had declared that he was on strike, affirming that he was handicapped.

“I want to tell workers that I have placed myself on indefinite strike in solidarity with them. I share your pains, but it is rather unfortunate that a man can’t give what he doesn’t have.

“Presently, I am handicapped and there is nothing I can do. I appeal that you put the interest of the state above everything, because the present position affects everybody”, he had said.

Subsequently, Fayose explained that he was only joking when he had joined the industrial action in solidarity with striking Ekiti workers.

He had said: “Some people said Fayose claims he is on strike, yes, I said so jocularly and you know it because you made me a comrade and it is in the character of comrades to strike and jokingly I said to you to identify with you that I am equally on strike”
