Woman Dies While Struggling For Her Share Of N1m Gift By Governor Udom (Photos)

A 41-year-old food seller, Mrs. Lizzy Offiong, has died while struggling for a share of the N1m the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, gave to Mbiaobong market women.

It was learnt that the woman, who sold food around the streets of Uyo in the morning, was returning from a church programme on Saturday when she decided to stop at the market to buy food items.

Her husband, Mr. Gabriel d**k, from Aka Ekpeme, in Ikono Local Government Area, told Southern City News in Uyo on Tuesday that his wife only went to the market to buy food items, but did not know how she became involved with the governor’s money.

According to him, when the governor arrived at the market, he told the women that he was going to give them N1m to share among themselves. He added that immediately the governor handed the money over to the market leader, Mrs. Edemawang Udo, and left, the market was thrown into chaos.

d**k stated that few minutes before 8pm, he was alerted that his wife had been rushed to St. Luke Hospital, Anua, Uyo, adding that Offiong was transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, after six hours of treatment at St. Luke Hospital without improvement.

“My wife was in the market to buy food items. When the governor arrived at the market, he asked for the market leader so that he could give them N1m to share among themselves.

“Then Emmanuel handed the money over to the elderly woman and instructed her to share it with the other women and then left. So, the women themselves began to drag the elderly woman to share the money, but from what I heard, there was confusion all over the place.

“So, the old woman was dragged here and there, and as I learnt, I did not know how the money got into my wife’s hand, before men and other women ramped into her, pushed her into the gutter and matched on her. And before anyone could realise what had happened, she had gone into coma,” he said.

The leader of the market women identified as Edemawang Udo, 65, said she was there when people fell on her and pushed her into the gutter, stressing that she had injuries especially on her waist as a result. Udo said when Emmanuel came, he sent for her and she abandoned what she was doing to meet the governor, explaining that the governor gave her N1m to share with other market women.

She said, “A young man who stood nearby came to collect the money from me, but when a policeman asked if he was my son, I said no. So, immediately I took the money to my stall, other women ran up to me to seize the money; and before you know, men selling beef, overpowered all of us and collected the money.

“I was trampled on and thrown into the gutter; and since then, I have just come to the market. I’ve not seen a kobo of the money the governor gave to us. I don’t know if there was anybody who suffered the way I did.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, said the police was not aware of the incident.

5 Reasons Sports Betting Killed Baba Ijebu Lottery

For a while, it was a common sight to see youths hanging in front of yellow kiosks waiting to stake money or check results in the Baba Ijebu lotto scheme. It reigned supreme then by arresting the attention of people who were interested in making quick cash by just predicting a few numbers and hoping they come out when the results are released.

The advent of sports betting changed the story. This involves predicting the score or result of sport matches.More and more people moved away from Baba Ijebu Lotto to stake their bet in sports betting thereby sending the former spiraling down very quickly. Here are the 5 Reasons Sports Betting killed Baba Ijebu lottery:-

1. Online Platform

The availability of Sports betting online has made it a favorite platform. Some people don’t want to be caught at the Baba Ijebu kiosk but they prefer the secrecy that online betting offers.

Considering the number of Nigerians who use smart phones, it is easy to tell why this is more convenient. Although sports betting also exist in shops and people go there to play but the convenience of checking results online instead of going back to the yellow kiosk is an advantage. Money is credited automatically into the winner’s account and nor run the risk of losing one’s winning because the ticket is missing which might happen in the Baba Ijebu lottery.

2. Guessing vs Prediction

Although Baba Ijebu involves calculation and permutation, the chances of winning is largely based on Luck. Humorously, players can pick number from plate numbers that catch their fancy or house numbers. While sports betting are also based on Luck, the knowledge of the sport and history of matches can affect one’s prediction and increase the chances of winning.

3. Prize Money

This is an important factor in betting. Baba Ijebu has been known to pay a lot of money but the introduction of sports betting offered more value for money. A single football match that goes the way of the player yields hundreds of thousands of money. This has shifted the focus of people who bet as it is predictable that they’re more enticed by larger winnings.

4. Passion For Sport

Nigerians love sport especially football. Lagos has a lot of viewing centres scattered around and there is always a football tournament going on all year round. This enthusiasm also translates to the betting that comes with it. Fans of different European clubs follow their clubs religiously and can bet any amount when these clubs are playing. The interest in sport and the knowledge of different clubs and players has increased the unmber of people who participate in sports betting.

5. Risk Factor

The risk factor is very important in any betting. The Baba Ijebu lottery poses a very big risk with the odds of winning very high. The odds are high in sports betting too but there is a way one can go for safe bets that has little risks e.g. predicting a match will end in a win or draw. For those who follow football matches, there is the possibility of winning which keeps the player on. It is not surprising therefore that sports betting has come to stay and may likely be on top for a long time. Drop your Comments.

How Lil Kesh’s Song, “Efejoku” Made Me Lose A Job Offer – Job Seek Share His Story

According to this young man who wrote to Us, he lost a job offer because he was listening to Lil Kesh’s smash hit ‘Efejoku’.

Read the hilarious story below:- I had seen couple of people come up online to complain about unemployment. I took it so easily not until I graduated and finished my NYSC that I began feeling the heat of unemployment and job hunting fire. Being a serious unemployed in Nigeria Is frustrating and intimidating.

My first ever job I applied for my NYSC, after the application, with even my 2.1 grade I wasn’t even invited for any form of test or interview. Na so I begin apply oo and yet nothing positive showed forth. One that pained me was the one I and 4 of my friends applied for. four of my friends were called and I was left behind. That one pain me sote I began crying. I felt intimidated, that I wasn’t good enough. I felt dejected and down casted. I felt I wasn’t up to my peers standard. All that made me strong.

Late 2015, November precisely I applied for a job in Abuja in an Auditing firm. A friend of mine sent me the link to apply. After applying, I was waiting for a feedback till the end of December. Yet no call or email, or even flash came from them. Na so I just forget about them, filling 2015 has gone with it. On the 5th of January 2016 I visited my friend of mine in Wuse. When I got there he was having a mini indoor party with his wife to be.

They were playing “Efejoku” by Lil kesh. They were feeling the song. Immediately my phone rang. I checked the number calling and it wasn’t a number saved on my phone. I went to a corner that I could be able to speak audibly with the caller.

I picked the call and it was a female voice. She said her name was Mabel and she was calling from the auditing firm I applied for the past year. Immediately I heard that, I immediately composed myself. But I was shocked the questions she started asking me. At first I thought it was a joke or compliment but later, no be complement oo.

Below was how our conversation went:- Mabel—- Good afternoon. My name is mabel, I believe am speaking with ********?

Me – Good afternoon .Yes you are.

Mabel—- Am from ******* Auditing firm. You applied for one of our vacant posts

Me ——- Yes I did.

Na here the call come turn another thing.

Mabel —— Ehmm, what kind of song is that ?

Me—- Song! Which song?

Mabel—The song at the background. Or are you not the one playing that song Then I realized she was talking about the song “Efejoku” playing at my own end. I never knew she was hearing it because I was not close to the parlour where the song is being played. I was quit far from the speakers. I told her it’s my friend’s place.

Mabel —-Why do you people like all these kind of wordly songs? Me no know wetin to answer her.

I thought she was calling to tell me that I have made it and their company had recruited me. I no come know the one wey she dey talk about song.

Me—— *silence**

Mabel—- It seems this is the kind of song you like too, you and your friends?

Me —- Not at all ma, I ….. She cuts in

Mabel —Our company wants responsible and sound people. Not mad men.

Me— (I didn’t know what to tell her) Am in my friends place.

Mabel — Your friend’s place? You guys stay in a ghetto area because we don’t want employees to bring thugs and ghetto into our company.

Me— No ma aaa oooo. Am not in a ghetto.

Before I could finish she has cut the call. I was very pained and angry. My friend asked me to go to their office in Wuse the next day.

The next day I went to their office. I met with one of the staffs who asked me to wait for one Mr. James na so I begin wait till the Mr. James came. I explained what happened the previous day to him. He laughed and asked me to come back the next day. When I came back the next day, the Mr james directed me to one Mrs Dammy. I guessed she was the one that called the other day. But it was unfortunate that the Mrs Dammy was not around. I was asked to wait. Na so I wait reach 4pm, work close.

I came back the next day, security no come allow me enter. Few days ago I got a text from an unknown number which I believe it’s from the firm. The text read. “Sorry we can’t employ you. We don’t employ thugs in ******* firm.” The thing pain me again. That was how I lost this job.
