Barrenness: Wife Attacks Husband With Acid In Ibadan (Photo)

THE woman who gave me a substance told me that it was a charm meant to endear my husband to me. I never knew that what she gave me was acid.

All I was trying to do was to keep my husband’s love so that he would not think of leaving me, because I know that my marriage with any other man would not endure because of my barrenness.”

These were that words of Remi Agunbiade (38), a resident of Ita Barika, Foko area of Ibadan, Oyo State, after she was arrested by the policemen from Iyaganku Division over an alleged attempt to kill her husband, one Olawale Shola, by pouring acid on him on January 27, 2016.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after a similar happening at Oje area of Ibadan where a man allegedly poured a bottle of acid on the mother of his two kids for reasons best known to him.

But the difference is that while the Oje suspect ran away after committing the act, the Foko victim, Shola prevented his assailant from escaping as he ran after her and held her until neighbours came to assist him in preventing the lady from running away.

Crime Reports learnt that the Foko incident happened at about 9a.m while Shola was lying down in a room he stayed with his partner, Remi.

In an interview with Remi after her arrest, the lady, who also got some of the acid on her skin, claimed ignorance of the substance she poured on her partner, saying that she thought it was a love charm.

According to her, “I met Shola in 2003 and we have been together since then. He was the one who forced me to abort for him twice, and since then, I have not been able to get pregnant again. Then, he had a wife with two kids.

“When I had my first pregnancy, he said that his wife was also pregnant with their third child, asking me to abort mine, which I did. He used to schedule his stay between the two of us. We used to quarrel often and this got me worried because I knew that if he left me, I would not be able to have another steady relationship since no man would be willing to live with a barren woman.

“I met a lady called Iya Azeez at a provision stall at Agbeni market, Ibadan. During our discussion, I intimated her of my challenges and said that I didn’t want to leave my husband. She replied that I would have to resolve the issue through self-help.

I asked for assistance to stop further quarrels between me and my husband and she said she would help me get water that had been prayed into from an Alfa, stating that all I would need to do is to sprinkle it on my husband, after which he would love me without holding anything back. She gave me a bottle containing the liquid substance on Tuesday, January 26.

“On Wednesday morning, my partner, Shola, was lying down when I took the bottle and poured the content on his head. He cried in agony from sleep and I also shouted and ran out. But he followed me and caught up with me beside the house next to ours.

“He asked people to help him hold me so that I would not run away. By then, a huge crowd had gathered and it was then they started saying that it was acid that I poured him. Some of the liquid got rubbed on my body when he held me, giving me some burns.” The suspect claimed that she did not know the residence of the friend who gave her the purported bottle of liquid, saying that she only met the lady about two months ago.

She confirmed that she quarrelled with her husband concerning accommodation, since she already told him that she was tired of living with him in a room she rented herself. “I decided to pack everything out of the room to another place, leaving it bare. His friends intervened and he came to sleep in the room with me on Tuesday. My action was because I didn’t want to have another husband.”

She also disclosed that her husband started dating another lady in her neighbourhood about three years ago, and that the lady used to scorn her childlessness. Remi added that her husband rented a room for the lady. Crime Reports was also at the Burns Unit of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan where the victim was on admission. He narrated his experience thus: “Remi and I have been together for over 11 years.

My relationship with her caused a friction between her and my first wife who has four children for me.

“I used to defend Remi anytime she had a quarrel with my first wife, especially because she had yet to have a child. At a time, I abandoned my first wife to be with Remi when the first wife cursed Remi and said she would never have any child till she would quit relationship with me.

“Also about three years ago, I started dating a lady. This caused Remi to be threatening her. She even went as far as quarrelling with the lady. Last year, I discovered that my first wife was already dating another man because of the neglect she suffered from me. As a result, I called Remi in October 2015 and told her that I would have to share days of the week between her and my first wife. Initially, she was angry at my suggestion but later said I should start in January 2016.

“I went to my first wife twice in January and by the I returned to Remi’s place, she had changed the lock and had packed all her belongings and mine. She also collected my phone from me under the pretext that she wanted to use it.

After my friend’s intervention, she returned on Monday, January 25. But I went to sleep in the third lady’s house. On Tuesday, I went to Remi’s place and stayed there with her in the bare room. “On Wednesday, I was lying down, waiting for a friend. Suddenly, I felt a warm liquid on me. As I opened my eyes, I saw as she was about to run out and I went after her. I raised the alarm and people came.

I told them that she had already threatened that she would do an unforgettable thing to me. That was how I was rushed to the hospital.” Shola admitted asking Remi to have an abortion in the past, but said it was only once.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the story, said that the suspect was still undergoing investigation, adding that she would be arraigned to court at the conclusion of investigation.

Ajisebutu warned members of the public against adopting acid as a weapon of revenge, saying that the act was criminal.

Speaking on Shola and the second patient, Abimbola, the Public Relations Officer of the UCH, Mr Deji Bobade assured that they would get the best of treatments.

According to Bobade, “it is good that they have passed the critical stage. We hope that in a matter of days or weeks, depending on how fast the healing process is. they should be discharged home.”

Thiery Henry Says Van Gaal Should Be Sacked From Man U And Replaced With Jose Mourinho

The former Arsenal striker thinks that Manchester United coach Louis Van Gaal is failing to infuse his ideas to his players and that he is struggling so hard to keep up with his job. He says the coach doesn’t know what he is doing anymore so the best thing for Man U to do is let him go and hire Mourinho.

In his Sunday column of The Sun UK, he wrote: “I know a lot of United fans and all they talk about is how poorly their team are playing, “It’s not about results any more. Even when they win, the issue is still how awful the football is. They don’t enjoy watching their team any more. They are bored”, “No one can question Van Gaal’s pedigree as a coach. But he has failed to get his message across at United and the players don’t know what is expected of them. He doesn’t appear to know his best team or even his best formation.”

“The club are crying out for success and Mourinho guarantees that, in spite of everything that happened at Chelsea this season,” Henry continued. “He is still an amazing coach and United have got to do something because it is simply not working for Van Gaal” he said.

United currently sits in fifth position in the Premier League, following a woeful run of results through December.

The Six Kinds Of People You Will Find In A Church In Naija

I have been observing people in my church for a long time and I have made a list of the various kinds of people you find in a typical Nigerian church.

1. The first set of people are called the Bible Scholars
They are always very serious, writing everything the pastor says, and nodding their head every now and then. I was shocked to see a brother by my side today writing everything the pastor said including the “praise the lord”, “amen” e.t.c they are always waving their hands and shouting yess at any little thing the pastor says.

2. The second set of people are called the talkers
All they do is to talk. Sometimes I wonder if there is pepper in their mouth as they just talk and laugh loudly. They wouldnt even hide it as they talk loudly and laugh carelessly. Sometimes it takes the intervention of the ushers to separate the two talkatives or group chatters. Once, a pastor on the altar shouted “Shut Up” on a girl from the congregation out of reflex action due to her endless talking…

3. The Sleepers
this set of people sleep through out the service. They can be found at vintage points near the fans or a.c. They would then bow their heads and sleep off and when the ushers wake them up, they would insist that they were only sleeping, there was one minister that layed down on the floor all in the name of praying with anointing and he went to chibok from there…

4. Walkers
This set of people can walk from lagos to port harcourt. All they do is to go in and out of the church. They cant sit down comfort ably for 5 minutes. They always have something to do either to change money for offering or to buy tom tom and baba blue. You would hear them saying words like, sorry, pls excuse me, get your bag out of the way e.t.c. An elder in my church had to slap one brother like that because he was always going in and out, disturbing the woman. ..

5. The Eaters
People that belong to this group are fond of eating. Their mouth is always closed but moving rapidly. I could not beleive my eyes last wheek when I saw a woman, a choir member for that matter eating corn at the front row during service sshe brought differnt items from her bag like corn, plantain, e.t.c and was eating it stupidly to the amazement of the church members, the pastors wife had to seize her bags…

6. Frosh Kidz
This people come to church with a lo t of pride. They dress as if they are going to see Buhari. They also apply a lot of heavy make up (for girls). They dress extravagantly with all the latest dress or clothes reigning even though they don’t have money. They would now start forming british accent. They wear all type of jwellry, head chain , neck chain, hand chain, waist chain, leg chain e.t.c.

They usually come very late for notice me purpose holding their heads high and holding the latest technological gadgets in their hands as they catwalk to their seat hoping to impress that boy/girl they have been crushing on…. Add Yours – Drop your Comments.

Scores Killed As Military Battles Insurgents In Maiduguri

Several people have been reportedly killed as the military engaged militants suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect in a fierce gun battle that reportedly lasted for hours on Saturday.

The insurgents were said to have attacked Dalori and Walori villages, on outskirts of Maiduguri, at around some minutes past 7pm on Saturday night. Dalori village is a few kilometres away from an Internally Displaced Persons camp, which is said to be the most populous IDP camp in the country.

Sources said Boko Haram insurgents usually mounted surprise attacks at that hour of the day, as they had studied the movement of the military. Residents, including students of the University of Maiduguri, were said to have scampered for safety while the gunfire lasted and explosion rocked the area.

Sources in Maiduguri told our correspondent that fighting was still on going at the time of this report at 10pm. “The fighting started at around 7.30pm but we don’t know how many people have been killed or injured,” the source said.

Another source said, ‘No it is not Dalori camp, there is a village behind the camp called Dalori gari; that is the one which is being attacked by Boko Haram. They have killed many and razed the village.”

The recent attack in Maiduguri comes a day after at least 15 persons were killed, and many others injured, in a twin bomb blast that rocked the Gombi Grain Market in Adamawa State last Friday.

Also, last Wednesday, twin bomb blasts had rocked the Chibok community in Borno State, killing 11 persons and injuring 35 others.

The bomb blasts reportedly went off at a military checkpoint and a market simultaneously, shattering the fragile security situation in the town where about 219 school girls were abducted by the Boko Haram sect in 2014. The girls have yet to be rescued. Source: PunchNg

Nigeria Will Start Producing Pencil In Nigeria By The End Of 2018 – Says “Onu” Science And Technology Minister

The minister of science and technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that the country will begin local production of pencils in the next two years.

After a facility tour of Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, Onu said the project would create over 400,000 jobs in line with the vision of the current administration. He said that it is wrong for the country to be importing pencils when it has the capacity to produce them. “It is unthinkable that 55 years after independence, Nigeria is still not producing pencils when we have the human and material resources in the country.

“PRODA has to produce pencils for Nigeria and they have given me the assurance that this can be done and that with pencil manufacture here, we will be creating 400,000 new jobs. “The Muhammadu Buhari administration is committed to creating new jobs and growing our economy,” he said.

The minister said that the ministry would give PRODA the necessary assistance to realise the project. He said that the agency could do more than it is doing now, with the needed support, adding that the country could leverage on pencil production to increase its foreign earnings.

“For the information of Nigerians, pencil is not produced anywhere in West Africa, so I am directing PRODA to realise this within the next two years,” he said.

Onu said that another area of interest is in the production of Nigerian made six cylinder engines. “The six cylinder engine is one thing they must produce.

“This is a mandate they have to work on because once we have the capacity to produce our own engine, then many of our defence and manufacturing requirements will be met.

Baby Swallows Mum’s Wedding Ring

Babies put all kinds of things in their mouth, if you have a baby please be careful and watchful… | This ugly incident happens on27-Jan-2016 According to a Reddit user, his wife lost her ring and searched everywhere, but couldn’t find it. She came to the conclusion to take their toddler to her GP ‘just in case’.

The GP X-rayed the child, and as you can see the lost wedding ring is clearly visible.

The father said, “The reason the pediatrician suggested the x-ray was to ensure it wasn’t getting stuck anywhere it shouldn’t. Retrieving the ring wasn’t the concern. “He’s actually shown no signs of discomfort at all. I’m certain his older brothers will be telling him about this for the rest of his life. Now we dissect each diaper like 5th grade science class.”

Anyway they got lucky, the father revealed that the ring later came out after his son pooped without any prompting needed.

“We can’t believe how quickly it passed, and it didn’t seem to cause him any pain on the way out…”

High Value Terrorists’ Killed As Airforce Intensifies Bombardment Of Sambisa Forest

The Nigerian Airforce has sustained aerial bombardment of Sambisa forest with over 280 operational sorties conducted against terrorists targets in the area in the last one month. Several ‘high value terrorists’ were killed in the operations, officials said.

The Deputy Theatre Commander, Air, of Operation Lafiya Dole, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, who stated this at a media briefing in Maiduguri stated that the air strikes and bombardments were conducted by the Air Component of the Operation Lafiya Dole in the North-East.

Mr. Amao said the ongoing and sustained air operations and surveillance within the theater of operation in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States were intensified between December 2015 and January 2016 towards ending the Boko Haram menace.

He said: “In continuation of the counter insurgency, the air component in the last one month conducted 286 operational sorties against terrorists’ targets from 25 December to date in the Sambisa forest covering an area of 157,000km2 which is equivalent to the total land mass of South Korea, Portugal and Togo in a total of 536 hours, 21 minutes were flown by various platforms engaged in the operations, “This translates into 316,637.5 litres of aviation fuel which amounts to N60.3 million, excluding the cost of maintenance and armament expended.”

He further explained that prominent operations among the missions carried out included an air strike on December 25 last year where some terrorists’ leaders and junior commanders, who gathered for a leadership meeting in Sambisa Forest, were neutralized by a precision strike which led to the killing of several Boko Haram terrorists.

There was also a significant strike conducted on January 17, 2016, following intelligence report on the location of a High Value Terrorists (Boko Haram HVT) leader taking refuge at a location south of Arra village in the Sambisa Forest, where air strikes neutralized the target.

He added that some areas of the successful airstrikes conducted to include; Gadzama, Ngwalimiri, Dure and Dure Takwalla, Ajigin, Bitta, Gulumba Gana, Sigel, Damasak and Kumshe communities now occupied by insurgents.

Other areas that came under strike include; Yajiwa, Asaga, Tumbun Gini and Mada towns, amongst others, as well as medical evacuation missions which were also carried out at Marte Local Government area and Banki town of Borno state on January 21 this year.

The deputy commander however maintained that the Nigerian Air Force, through its Component in Operation Lafiya Dole, is focused on sustaining air operations and providing support to ground troops of the Armed Forces as they strive to rid Nigeria of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Mr. Amao further added that all the areas bombarded were thoroughly monitored on intelligence surveillance and eye services before the attacks or shelling.

Most of the targets included Boko Haram fuel pump storages, Solar Panels, Meeting Points and hideouts in the samuba forests as most of the areas were identified first before the air strikes.

OAU Students Ask Buhari To Probe VC

Hundreds of students of Obafemi Awolowo University on Friday asked President Muhammadu Buhari administration to probe the activities of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bamitale Omole.

The students passed the message to the President through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who was at the university. They also bombarded the minister with requests that the Federal Government should ensure decent hostels for students on the campus.

The minister was at OAU to deliver the distinguished guest lecture, titled ‘Nexus between corruption and underdevelopment of Nigeria’ at the University’s Faculty of Arts. The students had staged series of protest against poor condition of their hostels which led to the closure of the school by the management late last year.

“Our halls of residence are in bad shape and my colleagues are saying probe Omole (VC) and so on,” said one of the students allowed to ask the minister a question.

“It is not only at the national level that the government should concentrate its fight against corruption, it should come to universities and we welcome President Buhari’s war against corruption on OAU campus.”

The entire students present applauded the students, while the minister promised to meet with the VC to discuss the issue of students’ union leaders under suspension.

The minister urged Nigerians to support the government in the fight, saying corruption had already started fighting back.
