Nigeria is a country full of traditions like many other countries around the world. It is almost a taboo for a woman to ask a man’s hand in marriage. Women generally have fantasies that someday a Mr. Right go down on his knees with a diamond encrusted ring to ask them for marriage.
But hey, we live in a world where change occurs over time and conventions are broken. Well times are changing yet again and with a deep sense of humor we look at five reasons why Nigerian women should start proposing to men.
1. Well, what a man can do a woman can do better We all know the popular saying “what a man can do a woman can do better”? Feminism is the order of the day and women want equality badly. How about some equality in the area of marriage proposals. Huh?
Instead of waiting for the conventional marriage proposal of going on his knees to pop the question, you can take charge and save him the trouble.
2. Men are like babies, just pick one
Just like little boys who love to be adored by their mums, men want to be pampered by the women they are dating. Yes, you heard right men want to be treated like babies.
He wants all the massages, special attention, care and pampering as much as you do and he probably deserves it as well. Nothing stops a woman from taking the initiative to show how much she cares by giving him a ring.
One you’re sure he is the right baby for you, set for the right mood and things should go smoothly with your proposal. Hehe.
3 Time isn’t on a (Nigerian) woman’s side there’s so much pressure on young Nigerian women to get married. In fact, this leads many of them to picking the wrong man. There’s pressure from Mum and Dad, pressure from friends and pressure from extended family. The seemingly bad girls get married earlier than the good ones.
What should you do? Well, if you believe you have found with Mr. Right for some reason he isn’t flashing an engagement ring, you better pin him down sharp sharp.
4. Young lady, you’ve got serious competition We all know things are getting tougher and more competitive in Nigeria. Back in the day, Nigerian men married at 25 now, guys are waiting till after 30 sometimes 35. The average man wants a car and a house before marriage. The cost of these packages means he’s got to wait longer. Even bride price has gone up due to inflation.
There are fewer men available for the increasing number of single searching ladies. If you’ve have one who is a bit comfortable and not too bad looking you better put a chain on his neck or like they say in Yoruba…cook him some nice vegetables.

Mrs Floyinka Ayinda has been arrested and detained at Idimu division on charges of vandalism of NNPC pipeline in Isheri Olofin, Lagos, after a pipe water well was discovered to be connected to NNPC pipeline.
According to PM News, the 59-year-old landlady has been siphoning petrol illegally at her residence located at KML 1, LASU Road, Iyana Odo bus stop in Isheri Olofin, for the past three years.
Officers of the Anti-Vandalism Intelligence Unit Team B set up by Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, acting on a tip-off made the discovery.
Ayinde allegedly admitted after her arrest that for the past three years, vandals has been operating in her house and she reported to the NNPC officials but they did not do anything about it.
She however denied her involvement in the act and claimed that her only mistake was by not informing the police because she relied on NNPC who asked her not to bother.
The suspect further revealed that the NNPC officials use to come with a team and she did not ask to know whether they were really officers or not.

The Nigeria Football Federation has apologized to the Federal Government and the good people of Nigeria for the Super Eagles’s failure at the 4th African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
Leading the Group C table before kick –off of the final matches on Tuesday, the Super Eagles failed to fly in a 0-1 defeat by Guinea in Rubavu that eliminated Nigeria from the continental houseparty in Rwanda.
NFF President Amaju Pinnick reiterated that the African Nations Championship is “both developmental and preparatory for bigger challenges,” and said without mincing words that the Federation would now shift focus to the qualification race for the bigger Africa Cup of Nations.
“We apologise to Nigerians for the poor outing of the Super Eagles in Rwanda, but we toe the line of CAF which states that CHAN is a developmental and preparatory competition. Of course, as Nigerians, we love to win always, and we feel bad when we don’t.
I want us to take the positives from this tournament. A player like Chisom Chikatara broke onto the global platform and players like Usman Mohammed, Chima Akas, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Austin Oboroakpo and Ifeanyi Mathew confirmed their class.
“For me, it is disappointing that we did not progress. But the NFF will now focus on the 2017 AFCON qualifiers, and start preparations early for the remaining rounds,” Pinnick said.
The Super Eagles have a quick, top-of-the-table double –take against Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying race, with the first leg in Nigeria on March 23 and the return leg in Egypt five days later.
In June, the Super Eagles take on Chad in N’Djamena before hosting Tanzania in the final round of matches in September.
